When it comes time to pick out a dessert, I always have the hardest time deciding!
After all, since starting this new regime to get rid of my muffin top, I don’t eat dessert all that often. When I do decide to have a treat day, I have to make it count!
As a result, my favorite recipes at the moment are “hybrid” desserts that combine two or more of my favorite sweets into one delightful dish that can easily be split into waistline-friendly portions.
That way, I can feel like I’m really indulging and making the most of my calorie splurge, without actually eating three helpings of three different desserts.
Lately, my favorite go-to has been an amazing recipe that combines old-fashioned brownies with cookies-and-cream and Oreos. It’s not much bigger or higher-calorie than an ordinary brownie, but it feels 10 times as decadent.
Print out the recipe below to try the brownie that gives you plenty of bang for your baking!
1 1/4 cups flour
3 Tbsps. cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsps. vanilla extract
Red food-coloring gel, to taste
1 pack Oreos
1 pack cookies-and-cream candies
In large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix well.
In a second large bowl, combine butter and brown sugar. Mix using electric mixer.
Add eggs, mix again. Add vanilla, mix once more. Add food coloring, mix one final time.
Add flour mixture to butter mixture slowly, in batches, mixing as you go.
Pour 1/2 of the batter into a 9 x 9 cake pan lined with tinfoil.
One top of batter, evenly layer Oreo cookies.
Pour remaining batter over the Oreo layer, and smooth with a spatula.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 350 °F.
Remove from oven, and immediately top with layer of cookies-and-cream candies.
Let stand 10 minutes until candies soften, then spread evenly across the top.
Chill for 1 hour, then remove and cut into single servings.
Serve cool, and enjoy!
