Usually some combination of whipped cream, cookies, fruit, and other sweets, the humble trifle is notable for a couple reasons.

8 oz. cream cheese
2/3 cup sugar
8 oz. tub Cool Whip
1 can cherry pie filling
In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese and 1/3 cup of sugar. Mix thoroughly.
Add Cool Whip and remaining sugar, mix until blended with cream cheese. Set aside.
Line the bottom of a large bowl or trifle dish with Nilla wafers.
Follow with one layer of the cream cheese mixture, and one layer of cherry preserves.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until container is nearly full.
Top with cherry pie filling, and finish off with a final layer of cream cheese mixture.
Top with maraschino cherries, and serve cool. Enjoy!
